Baden-Württemberg became a state of West Germany in April 1952 through the merger of South Baden, Württemberg-Baden, and Württemberg-Hohenzollern. These three states had been artificially created by the Allies after World War II out of the existing traditional states by their separation over different occupation zones.

The city of Baden-Baden was founded 2000 years ago to do people good. In the 19th century it became the "summer capital of Europe" - and this splendour continues to this day. We are a World Heritage Site! We are very pleased with the decision that Baden-Baden is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Great Spa Towns of Europe.

This pink church is the oldest building in Baden-Baden and can be dated back to 987. Its architecture is a combination of Romanesque, late Gothic and Baroque styles. It was built on the ruins of Roman baths.

Baden-Baden (meaning "The Baths in Baden ") is a spa town built on thermal springs at the edge of the Black Forest in Baden Württemberg, south west Germany. It is one of 11 "Great Spa Towns of Europe", a transcontinental UNESCO world heritage site.
