The son of Geoffrey IV, Count of Anjou and Queen Matilda, Henry was born in LeMans, France, and acceded the throne of England in 1154, where he was crowned on December 19. He was the first of the Angevin kings, and one of England's most effective monarchs.

  3. He died on 6 July 1189, aged 56; he had wished to be interred at Grandmont Abbey in the Limousin, but the hot weather made transporting his body impractical and he was instead buried at the nearby Fontevraud Abbey. Legacy

    Henry and his queen Eleanor of Aquitaine were crowned in Westminster Abbey on Sunday 19th December 1154 by Theobald, Archbishop of Canterbury. His titles were King of England, Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine and Count of Anjou and Maine.     He died as a result of a riding accident at Chinon in France on 6th July 1189 and was buried with his family at Fontevrault. Effigies of him and his wife can be seen there.
