Sussex (/ ˈ s ʌ s ɪ k s /), from the Old English Sūþsēaxe (lit. 'South Saxons'), is a historic county in South East England that was formerly an independent medieval Anglo-Saxon kingdom.
The historic village of Firle in East Sussex sits beneath Firle Beacon. The village boasts traditional pubs, a farm shop, and Firle Place manor house. Firle Place displays a collection of paintings and furniture. You can get a beer at The Ram Inn, located in the heart of the village
Overall, more than 50 serve East Sussex, including further education colleges in larger towns. A number of independent boarding schools are also located in the county, including Brighton College and Roedean. Sussex is located predominantly on the south coast of England with around 90 miles of shoreline from Camber in the east to Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the west. Spanning 1,461 square miles, Sussex shares borders with Kent , Surrey and Hampshire .
Gliding in this area dates from the Itford Hill meeting in1922 and the club was originally located at Firle Beacon. The present club was formed in 1974 as East Sussex Gliding Club Ltd is owned and operated by the members. All the club's flying and management operations are carried out by the club members of which there are currently around 120.
