To conclude, I would recommend this book to general readers and more academically minded students, as it is an intelligent and well researched introduction to Oliver Cromwell.

Alan Marshall focuses not so much on Cromwell’s reputation as a soldier, as on the use of his name and historical persona in debates about the military presence in politics.
