That determination undoubtedly helped bring about Anne Boleyn’s downfall and execution (May 19, 1536). On May 30, 1536, Henry and Jane were married privately.

Why did Henry marry Jane? We don’t know much about Jane Seymour's motivations. Like all of Henry VIII's wives, she has left very little personal testimony behind to tell us how she felt. Her family were rich, but relatively powerless (until Jane’s marriage sealed their royal connections), so they may have pushed her forward at court.

On 24 October 1537, Henry VIII’s third and favourite wife – Jane Seymour – died shortly after giving birth. Having given Henry the son that he had craved for so long, she was the only one of his six wives to be given a full Queen’s funeral, and was later buried beside the King. 1.
