Wilhelm Ostwald. (Friedrich Wilhelm Ostwald, Riga, Letonia, 1853 - Grossbothen, 1932) Químico y filósofo alemán. Estudió en Dorpat (1872-1875) y ejerció la docencia desde 1877. A partir de 1881 fue profesor en el Politécnico de Riga.

Ostwald is credited with being one of the founders of the field of physical chemistry, with Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff, Walther Nernst, and Svante Arrhenius. [1] .
