Bilbo Bolsón (Bilbo Baggins en el original inglés) es El hobbit, protagonista absoluto de la novela. Se trata de un hobbit que vive tranquilo en un confortable agujero de Hobbiton, en La Comarca. La compañía de Thorin le contrata como «saqueador» en la aventura hacia Erebor, a instancias de Gandalf.
