It is strongly associated with the English and succeeding British royal family, and embodies almost a millennium of architectural history. The original castle was built in the 11th century, after the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror.

The castle is in regular occupation as a royal residence and is a conspicuous landmark for travelers approaching nearby Heathrow Airport.

Windsor Castle is the major attraction in this town on the River Thames, but it has much more to offer. Other reasons to visit include pretty parkland and the cobbled streets lined with lovely pubs and independent shops.
