The dakuten forms づ, ヅ, pronounced the same as the dakuten forms of the su kana in most dialects (see yotsugana), are uncommon. They are primarily used for indicating a voiced consonant in the middle of a compound word (see rendaku ), and they can never begin a word.
ず/づ (as with じ/ぢ) have merged in standard Japanese. Hence why many words that used to spelled with づ have changed to ず in modern spelling, apart from a few (basically arbitrary) remnants having to do with rendaku. The word 絆 for example is now spelled「きずな」, but used to be「きづな」.
