Geographically, that’s pretty far from where the dialects modern Spanish, Italian and Portuguese come from were spoken, which is why the pronunciation of French is quite different. Sound changes, probably facilitated by extensive contact with Germanic languages. You find "weird" Romance varieties all along the Germanic-Romance border basically.
