If Dave is the new Odysseus of the “space odyssey,” then Hal as the red eye of the ship is the new Cyclops.

Much later, I read all the novels (2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010: Odyssey 2, 2061: Odyssey 3 and 3001: The Final Odyssey) and watched the second film (2001: Odyysey 2). Still, I could not find the atmosphere and the grandeur of the original film.
