Located in the filmmaking capital of the world, the AFI Conservatory is nestled in the hills overlooking Hollywood. The picturesque eight-acre campus is in the center of the professional filmmaking community with easy access to studios, networks and post-production facilities.
AFI Conservatory is a five-term Master of Fine Arts program in six disciplines: Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing, Production Design, and Screenwriting. Traditionally, the Conservatory accepts 28 Fellows per year for most disciplines and 14 for the Production Design and Editing disciplines.
ONLINE APPLICATION. AFI uses the GradCAS application system. The application portal will be available starting on September 7, 2023 for Fall 2024 applicants. Please note applicants can only apply to a maximum of two programs. Applications for Fall 2024 are now closed for Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing and Screenwriting.
The AFI Conservatory MFA Directing program teaches filmmakers how to work with actors, analyze scripts, develop a unique narrative point of view and visual design for each project, collaborate with other departments, pitch projects and more.
The AFI Campus is located in the Hollywood hills overlooking Los Angeles. Our address is 2021 North Western Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027. The AFI entrance is shared with the main entrance to Immaculate Heart High School and Middle School.
