Backed by a jazzy crew including the great young upright bassist Christian McBride, organist Ricky Peterson, drummers Steve Gadd and Cindy Blackman and veteran pianist and founding member of the The Crusaders, Joe Sample, Benson burns in a variety of settings.
In 2000, she released her second HighNote date, Works on Canvas, in 2000 with pianist/keyboardist Carlton Holmes, bassist George Mitchell, and guest tenor player JD Allen. That same year she appeared on George Benson's Absolute Benson and Eddie Allen's Summer Days.

That same year she appeared on George Benson's Absolute Benson and Eddie Allen's Summer Days. Blackman released her final (and more electric) HighNote set Someday... in 2001, using the same band, this time with Allen present throughout.
Absolute Benson is his third GRP release, and on it he turns in a varied set, accompanied by Joe Sample on keyboards; Carlos Hernandez or Christian McBride on bass; Vidal Davis, Steve Gadd, or Cindy Blackman on drums; and Luis Conte on percussion. Four of the nine tracks feature vocals of one sort or another.
