29 de abr. de 2024 · Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing): For the unitiated, Fountains of Wayne ’s Adam Schlesinger is the guy who wrote That Thing You Do! for that Tom Hanks movie. And that’s pretty much the sort of sugary pop thing he and his band do on this hummable, magnetic disc.
Hace 18 horas · What is even more unfortunate is that the band’s main force Adam Schlesinger, passed away during the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020. He was also the person who wrote the music to the title song from That Thing You Do!, one of the best rock movies made. Jellyfish. In some ways, San Francisco’s Jellyfish had a similar fate to Fountains of Wayne.

According to Schlesinger, Hanks approached him and asked him to write a song that sounded like “British Invasion” music. Schlesinger, being a fan of that type of music, was excited to take on the challenge.

They had some success with their first album but it was “Stacy’s Mom” that really launched them into the spotlight. The song tells the story of a young boy who has a crush on his friend’s mother, Stacy’s Mom.
