Nacimiento y primeros años de vida. Abbas nació en Medina de Ali y Fatima bint Hizam ibn Khalid ibn Rabi'a, una mujer de la tribu Banu Kilab. Abbas tenía tres hermanos completos, llamados Abd Allah, Ja'far y Uthman. Su madre Fátima pasó a ser conocida como Umm al-Banin ( lit. 'madre de los hijos').
