During 1996, Alan Silson found it increasingly difficult to come to terms with being on the road and constantly travelling. Eventually, he made the extremely hard decision to stop touring with the band. To stand in for Alan, the band brought in Mick McConnell. Mick was quickly accepted by all the fans and has now become a firm favourite.
Historia. Inicialmente se denominaron The Yen y posteriormente Essence. El grupo se formó en 1965, y estaba compuesto por Chris Norman (Redcar, Yorkshire, Reino Unido, 25 de octubre de 1950), Terry Uttley (Birkenshaw, Reino Unido, 9 de junio de 1951), Alan Silson (Birkenshaw, 21 de junio de 1951) y Ron Kelly (1952).
Last night in Melbourne there was a most emotional reunion for Smokie, when we found out that original lead guitarist Alan Silson was in the audience. We made sure that we got Alan backstage after the show. A few laughs and a few tears as you'd expect, but we were all delighted to see Alan.
