She and her sisters Victoria and Maud had spent much of their childhood away from court, in the summers at their father’s estate at Sandringham in Norfolk, or sometimes with their mother’s relatives in Denmark.

James Duff, 5th Earl Fife, 1st Baron Skene (1814–1879) Alexander William George Duff, 1st Duke of Fife and Earl of Macduff, 1st Duke of Fife and Marquess of Macduff, 1st Earl of Fife, 6th Earl Fife KG KT (1849–1912) married Princess Louise, Princess Royal (1867 – 1931) eldest daughter of King Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark.
Motto. Deo juvante ( Latin for 'With God's help') Earl Fife was a title in the Peerage of Ireland created by letters patent dated 26 April 1759 for William Duff, 1st Baron Braco, after asserting (but not proving) his descent from Macduff, the medieval Earl of Fife. Though in the Irish peerage, the title's name refers to Fife in Scotland.
Alexander William George “1st Duke of Fife” Duff. Born at Delgaty Castle in Aberdeenshire, the son of Sir James, 5th Earl of Fife and his wife Lady Agnese Haye. He married Princess Louisa Victoria Alexandria of Wales on 27 June 1889. After the wedding, Queen Victoria, Louise's grandmother, created him Duke of Fife and Marquess of MacDuff.
