Získal Zlatý glóbus za roli ve filmu Il diavolo z roku 1963 , Stříbrného lva na festivalu v Berlíně za roli ve snímku Detenuto in attesa di giudizio z roku 1961 , sedmkrát získal nejprestižnější italskou filmovou cenu Ente David di Donatello .
