The 1992 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XVI Olympic Winter Games ( French: XVIes Jeux Olympiques d'hiver) and commonly known as Albertville '92 ( Arpitan: Arbèrtvile '92 ), was a winter multi-sport event held from 8 to 23 February 1992 in and around Albertville, France.
The Games were awarded to Albertville but they were actually spread over several small towns and villages of the French Savoie in the French Alps. Problems with transportation between the villages were expected but they did not materialize and the Games were extremely well run.
