Alexandre Millerand (French: [alɛksɑ̃dʁ milʁɑ̃]; () 10 February 1859 – () 6 April 1943) was a French politician. He was Prime Minister of France from 20 January to 23 September 1920 and President of France from 23 September 1920 to 11 June 1924.
Millerand argued that the Republic was worth defending and used his three years as Minister of Commerce to introduce a number of laws which improved the legal rights of trade unions and the social rights of workers.By 1914, Millerand had moved far from his political origins and his professional activities increasingly concentrated on highly paid commercial litigation.
