Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt Sr. (October 20, 1877 – May 7, 1915) was an American businessman and member of the Vanderbilt family. A sportsman, he participated in and pioneered a number of related endeavors. He died in the sinking of the RMS Lusitania.

Biography. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt I (1877-1915) was an American businessman, philanthropist, and sportsman. He was born into one of the wealthiest families in the United States and was the great-grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt, one of the wealthiest men in the world at the time.
