Amalia van Solms-Braunfels werd op 31 augustus 1602 geboren als dochter van Johan Albrecht I van Solms-Braunfels (de oudste zoon van Elisabeth van Nassau, een zuster van Willem van Oranje) en Agnes van Sayn-Wittgenstein.
