Last week I read Life & Fate and began An Armenian Sketchbook. While reading these I have been struggling to understand why Grossman isn’t as widely known or celebrated (with the consideration of his being unpublished until years after his death) as authors like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Lermontov.
