The last of a series of showtune albums recorded by the trio of pianist Andre Previn, bassist Red Mitchell and drummer Shelly Manne finds the all-star group focusing on the music of West Side Story (Previn and Manne alternated leadership, and it was the drummer's good fortune to have the famous My Fair Lady album under his own name).
The initial Billboard magazine review from May 1967 included the album as a 'Pop Special Merit' pick and wrote that "Previn plays the romantic standards simply and effectively. He doesn't showboat but stays pretty much with the melodies as they were written".
6 de mar. de 2021 · Previn was an excellent composer. John recorded a set of jazz-inflected piano pieces called The Invisible Drummer on his Continuum 2-CD set, Transatlantic Piano, recently reissued by Heritage, and Previn wrote a charming letter of thanks to John when he found this out.
