The Angela Thirkell Society was founded in 1980 by Mrs Diana McFarlan of Dublin, at the instigation of Margot Strickland, author of Angela Thirkell, Portrait of a Lady Novelist. Society visit to North End House, Rottingdean, one of the Three Houses. The youngest of Angela’s three sons Lance Thirkell, was also an active participant.
Angela Thirkell. (1890-1961) nació en Londres en el seno de una familia ilustrada. Entre sus parientes figuraban el artista prerrafaelita Edward Burne-Jones, Rudyard Kipling y Stanley Baldwin, y su padrino fue el novelista J. M. Barrie. Se educó en Londres y París, y empezó a publicar artículos y relatos en los años veinte.

ANGELA THIRKELL (1890–1961) Angela Margaret Mackail was born on January 30, 1890, at 27 Young Street, Kensington Square, London. Her grandfather was Sir Edward Burne-Jones the pre-Raphaelite painter and partner in the design firm of Morris and Company for whom he designed many stained glass windows—seven of which are in St Margaret’s Church in Rottingdean, West Sussex.
