Anthony Conrad Nesty was born on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, the last in a family of five, who relocated to Paramaribo in Surinam when he was less than a year old. Despite growing up in a country that had just one 50m pool for a population of 350,000, Nesty started swimming when he was five, and was soon specialising in the butterfly.

For head coach Anthony Nesty, it marked his fifth-straight men’s title, and his first women’s title at the helm of Florida swimming. In just his second season as both the men’s and women’s head coach, Nesty is the second coach in UF history to win a men’s title and women’s title in the same season, joining Randy Reese, who did it five times (1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1990).
