Predictions of economic and labor disruption caused by the abolition of slavery proved to be unfounded.

Pedro II, being only 6 years old at the time of his coronation, had a regency established. The regency would rule until 1840, when the Emperor turned 14 years old.

He was a long-serving leader who led Brazil through the victorious War of Triple Alliance and abolished slavery in his country.
