  2. 22 de abr. de 2024 · (1563–1625).Lord deputy of Ireland. Chichester came from a Devon family. In 1604 he was made lord deputy in succession to Mountjoy and held the post for a remarkable eleven years, retiring in 1615.

  6. Hace 4 días · Though the site of Belfast has been occupied since the Stone Age, its modern history began in 1611 when Baron Arthur Chichester built a new castle there. He did much to encourage the growth of Belfast, which received a charter of incorporation in 1613.

  7. 7 de may. de 2024 · The present ruins are estimated to have been built in 1612 and 1621 and were given to Sir Arthur Chichester. It remained in his family until 1823. Later, in 1938, the castle was given to the state. What remains is a part of the tower with pairs of gun loops in what seems to have been the basement.
