Fürst ([fʏʁst] ⓘ plural Fürsten) es un título nobiliario germano traducido generalmente al español como príncipe. El término se refiere al gobernante de un principado y se distingue del título del hijo de un monarca, el cual es llamado Prinz.
Wortherkunft. Das Wort „Fürst“ stammt vom althochdeutschen furisto „der Erste, der Vorderste, der Führende“, das auch die Grundlage für ähnliche Bezeichnungen in anderen germanischen Sprachen bildet: englisch first „als erstes, Erster“, niederländisch Vorst, dänisch und norwegisch fyrste sowie schwedisch furste.
