Antoinette was the second daughter of Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld - sister of Ernest I (Prince Alberts father), Leopold I (King of the Belgians) and the Duchess of Kent (Queen Victorias mother). In 1798 she married Alexander, Duke of Würtemberg, who had a successful career in the Russian court.
