Berengar I (Latin: Berengarius, Perngarius; Italian: Berengario; c. 845 – 7 April 924) was the king of Italy from 887. He was Holy Roman Emperor between 915 and his death in 924. He is usually known as Berengar of Friuli , since he ruled the March of Friuli from 874 until at least 890, but he had lost control of the region by 896.

He was the founder of a line of princes of the 9th–11th century who in popular Italian histories are ranked incorrectly as national kings.

En 887, Berengario del Friul (hijo de san Everardo y de Gisela, hija a su vez de Ludovico Pío, emperador del Sacro Imperio carolingio), se proclamó rey de Italia. Su elección precipitó décadas de contiendas por el trono entre los aspirantes y rivales. Berengario lo perdió en 888 y no pudo recuperarlo de nuevo hasta el año 905.
Berengar was a son of Margrave Adalbert I of Ivrea and his wife Gisela of Friuli, daughter of the Unruoching king Berengar I of Italy. He succeeded his father as margrave about 923 and married Willa, daughter of the Bosonid margrave Boso of Tuscany and niece of King Hugh of Italy.
