The East of England is one of the nine official regions of England in the United Kingdom. This region was created in 1994 and was adopted for statistics purposes from 1999. It includes the ceremonial counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The traditional central town is the cathedral city of Norwich, which since 1961 has been the site of the University of East Anglia and its Centre.
The East of England is the most easterly region of England and indeed of the whole United Kingdom. It lies broadly to the north of London, the Thames estuary and South East England, to the south of the Wash (the square-shaped indentation on England's east coast) and to the east of the East Midlands.
