Lord Grafton was born Augustus Henry FitzRoy into an aristocratic family in 1735. He was a fourth-generation descendant of King Charles II and his mistress the Duchess of Cleveland. He was educated at Newcome’s School in Hackney and Westminster School, and then at Peterhouse College at the University of Cambridge.
Augustus Henry FitzRoy, 3rd Duke of Grafton, KG, PC (1 October 1735 – 14 March 1811) was a British Whig statesman. He was one of a handful of dukes who were Prime Minister of Great Britain. Education. He studied at Westminster School and then got a degree from Peterhouse College in Cambridge.
Unable to withstand the pressure, Grafton resigned in January 1770. He never returned to the front rank of politics, but served as lord privy seal in 1771–5 and 1782–3.
