The Australian Vertical Working Surface. The AVWS is a new reference surface for physical heights in Australia, released on 1 January 2020. It provides an alternative for users requiring higher-quality physical heights (current accuracy about 4–8 cm) than those the AHD can provide (accuracy about 6–13 cm).

The Australian Height Datum is Australia’s first and only national height reference system. It was adopted by the National Mapping Council in 1971 based on a (staged) least squares adjustment of 97,320 km of ‘primary’ levelling (used in the original adjustment) and approximately 80,000 km of ‘supplementary’ levelling (included in a subsequent adjustment).

7 de jun. de 2023 · The Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994 (GDA94) was based on the realisation of ITRF1992 at epoch 1994.0, or 1 January 1994. Since then: due to plate tectonic motion, Australia has moved ~7 cm per year. As a result GDA94 coordinates have continued to diverge from ITRF92 coordinates. By 2020, the difference will be approximately 1.8 metres.
The tool includes transformations between data referenced to the GRS80 ellipsoid (GDA94) ⁄ WGS84 ellipsoid (WGS84), Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT), Mean Sea Level (MSL), the Australian Height Datum (AHD), Highest Astronomical Tide (HAT) and other tidal vertical datums of user interest (and vice versa).
