As a dowager queen of Georgia, she ruled as regent for her underage son, Bagrat IV, from 1027 to 1037, and was involved in diplomacy with the Byzantine Empire.

The Kingdom of Vaspurakan ( Armenian: Վասպուրականի թագավորություն; also transliterated as Vasbouragan from Western Armenian) was a medieval Armenian kingdom centered on Lake Van, located in what is now eastern Turkey and northwestern Iran. It was named after Vaspurakan, a province of historic Greater Armenia. [1]

Vaspurakan (Armenian: Վասպուրական, Western Armenian pronunciation: Vasbouragan) was the eighth province of the ancient kingdom of Armenia, which later became an independent kingdom during the Middle Ages, centered on Lake Van.
Bagrat IV fue el hijo del rey Jorge I (r. 1014-1027) y de su primera esposa Mariam de Vaspurakan, hija del rey de Ani. A la edad de tres años, Bagrat fue entregado por su padre como rehén al emperador bizantino Basilio II (r. 976-1025) como precio por la derrota de Jorge en la guerra contra los bizantinos en 1022.
