6 de jul. de 2021 · However, they invited contralto Jessica Cleaves, born on December 10, 1948 in Los Angeles, California, and contralto Barbara Jean Love, born on July 24, 1941, in Los Angeles to join the group. Later contralto Charlene Gibson replaced Love during her pregnancy. By 1968, the Friends of Distinction were popular in Los Angeles and along the west coast.
Barbara Joan Love (February 27, 1937 – November 13, 2022) was an American feminist writer and the editor of Feminists who Changed America, 1963–1975. With the National Organization for Women, Love organized and participated in demonstrations, and she also worked within the organization to improve its acceptance of lesbian feminists.

Barbara Jean Love (b. 24th July 1941, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.) later: Charlene Gibson. The Friends of Distinction are an R&B group formed in 1968. They are, probably, best remembered for the hit songs, ‘Grazing in the Grass’, and ‘Going in Circles’. The group were founded by Harry Elston and Floyd Butler.
Charlene Gibson replaced Barbara Jean Love during her pregnancy, singing lead vocal on Love or Let Me Be Lonely, which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1970. Between 1969 and 1973, the Freinds of Distinction released six albums, with a (belated) seventh in 1976.
