Barry Doyle Harris was an American jazz pianist, bandleader, composer, arranger, and educator. He was an exponent of the bebop style. Influenced by Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell, Harris in turn influenced and mentored bebop musicians including Donald Byrd, Paul Chambers, Curtis Fuller, Joe Henderson, Charles McPherson, and Michael Weiss.
Barry Harris, American jazz pianist, composer, and educator who, as a musician, became known for his virtuosity, marked by complex chord structures and speed of play. An exponent of the bebop style that became popular after World War II, he played with such musicians as Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis.
Many know Barry Harris as an influential performer of Bebop. But his legacy will live on as one of the greatest music educators of all time. While the world is sharing videos of Barry's performance, I'd like to share one of my most treasured videos.
