The series focuses on Rusty, the most advanced robot ever built, with a human emotional grid and "nucleoprotonic" powers. The plan by Quark Industries is that Rusty will replace the Big Guy, a massive war robot that is the Earth's last line of defence against all threats alien or domestic.

S1.E1 ∙ Creatures, Great and Small. Earth's protector BGY-11, better known as the 'Big Guy', is decommissioned after boy robot 'Rusty' is successfully deployed; but when a new threat proves to be too much for Rusty alone, the Big Guy returns to join the fight.
Overview. "Big Guy" is an elite fighting robot, protecting New Tronic City from danger, whether from earth or from outer space. When the Big Guy is decommissioned, however, a smaller, childlike robot named Rusty is brought on to take its place.
