As his iconic role in "Dad's Army", Bill's acting career included two "Carry On" films and he also appeared in the 1980s Channel 4 sitcom "Chance In A Million" alongside Brenda Blethyn and Simon Callow. Jon Pertwee is incorrect - he is best known for "Doctor Who" and "Worzel Gummidge".
