Becoming Bishop of Cracow in 1072, he preached against sinful living and unjust government. He was killed in 1079 while celebrating Mass by King Boleslaus who had been excommunicated for war crimes. Stanislaus was canonized in 1253 and is the patron of Poland and soldiers in battle.
