22 de abr. de 2024 · In 1912, a fire devastated downtown Black Mountain and destroyed many of its original wooden structures. Black Mountain College opened in 1933 and remained a solid liberal arts institution until it closed in 1956. Roberta Cleopatra Flack was born in 1937 in Black Mountain.

The poets who came up through this brief but impactful program are known today as the Black Mountain Poets.
