Brasenose College purchased the house for the sake of that door knocker, which was brought to Oxford and now hangs over the high table in Hall. The College historians of the 1890s were convinced that the fourteenth century students of Brasenose Hall took the knocker from which they derived their name to Stamford, and that it had been restored to its rightful home at last.

Oxford – Brasenose. Brasenose is a friendly, medium sized college right in the centre of Oxford on Radcliffe Square. There are usually around 400 undergraduates, so everyone tends to get to know each other well within a short space of time. I applied to Brasenose after going to the UNIQ summer school in 2018.

Brasenose College, Oxford University. Inside the front quad at Brasenose College. Tradition has it that Brasenose College takes its unusual name from its original 13th-century door knocker (now in the college dining room), shaped like a snout, or nose. The knocker was made of brass, hence "Brazen Nose" or "Brasenose".
The bulk of learning is through individual or paired tutorials (usually two hours a week), and college and faculty classes are also arranged. The University, which boasts the largest Classics faculty in the world, provides a wide range of lecture courses, open to students from all colleges. There are three main Brasenose Tutors.
