    Burnside College students today celebrated a fantastic set of GCSE results. While nationally the pass rate fell to 73%, students at Burnside achieved a pass rate of 78% in their GCSEs . Despite the pass rate falling nationally, the percentage of students who achieved a 4+ pass in both English and maths has stayed the same as last year 72% .

The school was opened on 15 July 1960 by the chairman of Parsons under the name, Wallsend County Technical School. It cost approximately £280,000 for the building work, the furniture and the equipment.
