The canonization of the Romanovs was the elevation to sainthood of the last Imperial Family of Russia – Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Tsarina Alexandra, and their five children Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei – by the Russian Orthodox Church.
There was one in 1905 which failed, but ultimately forced the Tsar to pass some reforms, including religious tolerance. He did end persecution of Catholics, if only begrudgingly so. The Tsar himself was a very pious man, and carried out his duty to the best of his abilities.
