Hamilton played an important but equivocal part in the Union of Scotland [1] and England [2] in 1707. He was the son of James Hamilton, 3rd Duke of Abercorn, and Lady Rosalind Cecilia Caroline Bingham. He inherited his father's peerages on 12 September 1953.
