Benenden is one of the leading boarding schools in Britain. Founded in 1923, we are situated in 250 acres of attractive parkland in Kent, the Garden of England, just an hour from London. There are 560 girls in the School, aged 11-18.
Benenden School has announced some exciting changes that will further improve students’ experience. From September 2025, the School will be establishing a boarding house dedicated to its two youngest year groups, at the same time as opening a university-style ‘penthouse’ floor for Sixth Formers.
The site on which the School stands is of great historical interest as both the parkland and woodland are mentioned in the Domesday Book: “Robert of Romney also holds Benenden [Benendine] from the Bishop of Bayeux”. Benenden had become sufficiently permanent by 1086 to have both a name and a church. Benenden became a Charitable Foundation.
Hemsted Park, historically sometimes known as Hempsted Park, [1] is a 100 hectares (250 acres) former country estate and manor house north-west of the village of Benenden in the English county of Kent. It is the site of Benenden School, an independent boarding school for girls.
Prior to joining Benenden Julie was the Bursar and Clerk to the Governors at Colfe’s School in London for 10 years. Julie is also a Director of the newly formed Independent Schools’ Mutual. Julie joined Benenden in 2020 as Director of Finance and Operations which includes responsibility for the support functions within the School.
In September 2023 Benenden International opened Benenden Bilingual School Guangzhou (BBSG). BBSG is set to be a leading school in the Guangzhou region, integrating the founding ethos of Benenden School. More information about the School can be found here.
