Elisabeth of France, or Elisabeth of Valois (Spanish: Isabel de Valois; French: Élisabeth de Valois) (2 April 1546 – 3 October 1568), was Queen of Spain as the third wife of Philip II of Spain. She was the eldest daughter of Henry II of France and Catherine de' Medici.

Elisabeth commissioned the portrait while at the Spanish court in Madrid between 1561 and 1565. The painting depicts Elisabeth holding a miniature portrait of her husband, Philip II, the King of Spain.

Elizabeth of Valois (văl´wä, Fr. välwä´), 1545–68, queen of Spain, daughter of Henry II of France. Originally intended to wed Don Carlos, son of Philip II of Spain, she was married (1559) to Philip himself. The unfounded legend of a tragic love between Elizabeth and Carlos is often found in literature, notably in Schiller's Don Carlos.
