He married Eleanor Kellogg Chase (1894-1961) 6 October 1917 in Waterbury, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States.
The Taft Education Center has an audio-animatronic exhibit of William’s son Charles Phelps Taft II fishing and telling stories about his father and other members of the Taft family, a short biographical film on William Howard Taft, as well as office and a National Park Service gift shop.

He married Anna Sinton in 1873, who was an heiress to a pig iron fortune. Following his death, Annie (Anna) Sinton Taft donated $5 million to the University of Cincinnati in 1930 and established a memorial fund after his name.
