Ashbee was a prominent figure in the British Arts and Crafts Movement, and it spread overseas towards the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. He was a vital link with progressive design thinking and practice in Europe and the United States.

Charles Robert Ashbee (Isleworth, 1863-Godden Green, 1942) Arquitecto británico. En 1888 fundó la Guild School of Handicrafts de Londres. Miembro fundador del movimiento Arts and Crafts, cambió más tarde de posición y participó de la «ideología maquinista», explicitada mediante el racionalismo.
