Disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer are just a few of the charges Cheri Honkala’s faced while promoting welfare rights.
Cheri Honkala. Cheri Honkala was a 2017 Green Party special election candidate for District 197 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She did not receive a spot on the ballot because her campaign submitted its paperwork a day after the official filing deadline. Honkala ran as a write-in candidate.

In 2011, Cheri Honkala ran for Philadelphia sheriff on the Green Party ticket. Her platform wasn’t about enforcing foreclosures, but rather as sheriff she planned to refuse to evict people from their homes.
Cheri Lynn Honkala is an American anti-poverty advocate, co-founder of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union (KWRU) and co-founder and National Coordinator of the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, also called the Poor People’s Army. She has been a noted advocate for human rights in the United States and internationally. She is the mother of actor Mark Webber.
